Place this distribution directory into the one that contains the Firefox executable. If this happens, then skip to Step 6 below. After the download is completed, the browser software may start to install automatically. It might take several minutes, depending on the speed of your computer and Internet connection. Place that content into a file called "policies.json" in a directory called "distribution" (so distribution/policies.json). Wait for the browser software to download completely. I have verified this on a clean install of an older Firefox, as can be seen in this screenshot. A Firefox policy completely disables update checking. Is it possible to stop all update checks? If the update check is happening because of "", is it possible to stop "about:preferences" from setting it to true? I noticed that everytime I open "about:preferences", the value for "" reverts back to true, which might be why an update check is happening. However I still receive the notification that there's a new Firefox version available. I've also got several options in "about:config" set: user_pref("", false) I've got the options set to "Check for updates but let you choose to install them" since there's no option to completely disallow checks. I'm using a portable version of Firefox and don't have anything installed that would automatically update (such as the Mozilla Maintenance Service). I update manually and don't need this automated. You can also manually update within the browser. I want to disable ALL Firefox update checks. Firefox can automatically update itself, so make sure you've enabled it to protect your browsing.
